A Fishboy design starts as a spark of inspiration in artist Paul Ocepek's self described "fish-shaped" brain, transferred on to a cocktail napkin or otherwise handy scrap of paper and later painstakingly redrawn on his computer. There it is refined and noodled over until he feels it is fit for release on to the unsuspecting public.

The next step involves the custom pigment dying of a 100% cotton t-shirt by Fishboy's manufacturing partner Lakeshirts of Detroit Lakes, MN. Next each color of the t-shirt design is individually silkscreened on to the garment. Lakeshirts motto is “To provide superior colors, garments, and designs” and the Fishboy and Fishgirl lines are proof of their dedication to producing only the best.

The Fishboy line appeals to outdoor enthusiasts with a special emphasis on anglers and hunters but with a growing line of designs for hikers, campers, backpackers, canoeist, kayakers, climbers, boaters and other lovers of the great outdoors.

In 2007 Fishboy has launched the long awaited "Fishgirl" brand to meet the demands of outdoor women. Although the Fishboy line's t-shirts and hats can be worn by both men and women, the Fishgirl Brand has been specifically designed for women with softer lines, colors and styles. The History of Lakeshirts - Fishboy's T-shirt & Hat Manufacturing Partner

In 1984, Mark Fritz and Mike Hutchinson started Lakeshirts in the basement of Mark’s parents’ home. Selection consisted of six screen print designs. A plywood printer was used as well as two second-hand kitchen ovens. T-shirts were placed on cookie sheets for the curing process inside the oven. Using this process, at least half of the shirts were burned. Distribution at this time was mainly local resorts and the small beach store. Today Lakeshirts is a full-service screenprint, embroidery and dye works company and their mission is “To provide superior colors, garments, and designs” including product lines such as Fishboy.
